A MOTHER’S touch and the skills of a domestic goddess were a winning combination for a new cook from Harborough who has won a national recipe competition.
Sharon McCall won Table Table’s national recipe competition with a mix of poached salmon and celeriac coleslaw.
The recipe had been passed down to Mrs McCall (47) by her mum and it saw her triumph over about 200 fellow entrants.
The cook book, which is compiled of the best of British recipes, is on sale now, with all proceeds going to the charity WaterAid.
WaterAid works to improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene in some of the world’s poorest communities.
Mrs McCall, who only started cooking seriously a year ago, said: “This recipe has been handed down from my mom, Peggy, so it is a real thrill to be able to share it with others.
“I just hope everyone else enjoys the coleslaw as much as my family do.”
The coleslaw recipe was praised by judges for its appetising appearance, full flavour and dedication to the best of British ingredients.
The charity cook book will now be on sale at all Table Table restaurants for £2 and all of this money will go to WaterAid.
As well as winning an entry in this cookery book, Mrs McCall has won a year’s worth of free meals at the Langton Inn, Table Table restaurant in Harborough.
Amy Housego, general manager of Langton Inn, said: “We are very excited to have a winner picked from our region and, having tried the celeriac coleslaw we could not be more confident that food fans across the country will enjoy it as much as we do.”
