Could you knit ‘get well soon’ teddies?

VOLUNTEER knitters are being called upon to knit teddy bears for children receiving medical treatment in war-torn countries.
Elaine Turner, of the Rotary Club of Lutterworth, has organised the appeal, as doctors treating youngsters in the developing world have found that children who have a teddy to cuddle in their cots get better more quickly than those who don’t.
An appeal by Elaine for volunteers to knit teddies shortly before Christmas received an overwhelming response – and now the appeal is being spread to villages in the Lutterworth area.
Anyone who volunteers will be sent a pattern and instructions.
Some of the teddies will also be used by the police and fire service in the UK and will be given to traumatised youngsters.
Elaine said: “There has been so much interest that we wondered if more people might be interested.
“If you have any spare double knitting wool or would like a pattern to knit from, please get in touch.”
About 30 teddies have already been created by knitters in the Lutterworth area.
