Grisly murder tale entertains group

LEIRE WI’s February meeting transported members back in time as they discussed a grisly murder which took place in Leicester in the 19th century.

The group was supposed to be visited by speaker Janet Courtney, but she fell ill at the last minute and was ably replaced by her husband.

He gave a very interesting talk to members, discussing the details of the actual murder.

He told how a man was caught and hanged for the murder of a debt collector and, although some body parts of the victim were found, no evidence of the actual murder, such as blood, was ever found.

He was found guilty despite the holes in the case.

After the story members were all asked for their opinions of what actually happened and several were offered – it was very interesting.

Leire WI meets on the first Monday of every month at Leire Village Hall from 7.30pm.

New members are always welcome to attend meetings.
