Let travellers pay for their plots

ARE we going mad? Regarding the Government’s allocation of £4.6m to find new sites for traveller and gypsy sites in Leicestershire, with £440,000 being generously donated to the Harborough district, I calculate that this works out at over £82,000 per plot, of which five will appear somewhere near here.

In this time of recession when households are expected to tighten their belts and we tax payers are being burdened with ever-increasing methods of extracting money from our wallets, I find it incredible that this is happening.

With many youngsters in the town forced to live at home or move away because they cannot afford the deposit on a property of their own within the town, a similar Government donation would be most welcome.

Are we to be ringed by five-star tax payer-funded traveller sites while our children are forced to move away?

Let them legitimately find and pay for their own accommodation like the rest of us do.

Welland Park Road,

Harborough.
