The Market Hall is a great asset to the town

I WRITE concerning the proposed arrangements for the Market Hall.

Whilst I can understand that any council has a duty to make the most of its facilities, I believe that the treatment of the existing stallholders is unacceptable.

Surely if the council evicts the stallholders, then it has a duty to provide the existing stallholders with facilities which are on a par with what they currently enjoy.

How can the council believe that in 2012 moving stallholders from a warm, purpose-built, hall to outside pitches is anything like fair.

The final insult is to suggest putting the ‘new’ market in what must be the most depressing and unpleasant location in Harborough town centre. The Market Hall is a facility that many local towns would love to have, yet here we are throwing away a great asset. If the market needs ‘re-thinking’ then fine, but don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.
