The overwhelming majority want the market left where it is!

That’s how many of your constituents want the market left exactly where it is. That’s well over half the town and going up every day! How long will it take before you understand that your plans are unacceptable.

As a trader in the old market and the new one, I know, along with most of the town, that the council’s plans to shove us out would be a disaster for traders and shoppers alike!

Remember a previous council’s decision to get rid of our cattle market?

I do, and what a shocking travesty that was, just to accommodate another supermarket!

Don’t make the same mistake as your predecessor – leave the market alone. If the Golden Triangle and Foxes Yard is going to be so good, let the big independent trader you want have it.

If we are to believe Councillor Rook and his supporters, they tell us the market is not making enough money.

This from a council that claims it costs £50,000 a year to run a public toilet!!

If I had run my business the way they run the market, I wouldn’t have lasted 30 days, never mind 30 years.

The amount of money wasted is unbelievable to anyone with common sense. Run in a business-like and efficient manner the market would make the council a handsome profit every year!

Having myself listened to shoppers and residents of the town and surrounding area, read the letters in this paper, it is glaringly obvious that the overwhelming majority want the market left where it is!

So come on Councillor Rook and your supporters, think again because there are going to be 10,000 people calling for your resignations if you don’t!!

John Ross,

John Ross Butchers,
