U3A learn about projects in Croatia
A THOUGHT-provoking talk about the perils of Eastern Europe was heard at the most recent meeting of the Wycliffe U3A.
Clive Fowle, the resident minister at the Methodist Church, splits his time between England and Eastern Europe, having experienced Croatia, Bosnia, and Serbia.
The main project he spoke about is called A Touch of Hope, which deals with trying to put back together cultures that were shattered by the wars of the early 1990s.
The wars divided a previously friendly populus, who now struggle to agree on even the most basic decisions. Language barriers are also an issue, he said.
There are many landmines still active in the Osjek and Vukovar regions of Croatia, as there is not enough money to be able to afford dismantling squads, he added.
