Starting off with just one client and now rocketing to up to 27 local clients attending the services of Freedom Support, an open evening took place to celebrate its first anniversary.

Freedom Support services offer a range of support to its clients suffering learning disabilities and mental health problems, directed by Tony Byers Brown and Marie Norman.

From the new working practises clients can now have choice and control over the budgets and use these budgets in a more creative and flexible arrangement to suit their needs.

Marie said: “The evening was truly inspirational and the turn out we received overwhelmed us.”

Attending the event was social services, local businesses, members of the general public, clients and their families.

Harborough Town Football Club was presented with a commissioned piece of art work of the football club. The clients had been working on this with a local art tutor.

A short film was also shown about the company on how it is delivering personalised budgets. Sailing, gym, yoga, art and drama tutors have all been employed by Freedom Support.

The company currently has six staff and is looking to expand this once it has more clients.

Matt Hampson who attended the opening said: “I am delighted to attend the opening evening and I could fully endorse Freedom Support as we give clients choice and control, I have been very impressed with our new working practices concentrating on clients having choice, control and support when and how they need it.”

Freedom Support also offers active sport opportunities and appropriate support to ensure that younger clients who want to go out to have a drink are supported by people of a more appropriate gender and age.

Freedom Support works alongside Sainsbury’s and LA Hairdressers which allows it to use the salon on a Monday when the store is closed so that clients can learn new skills.

Marie and Tony would like to thank the club for its on going support and say they are truly grateful for the excellent resources that are available to its clients.
