Pupils learn work of council

CHILDREN from Clipston Primary School learnt about the workings of a local authority during a visit to Daventry District Council’s offices.

The visit was held as part of Local Democracy Week, from October 15 to 21.

Helen Osborn, Environmental Improvement Officer at Daventry District Council, said: “The school children really enjoyed the session in the Council Chamber at our offices, and learnt all about how local councils work.

“We also did various activities around environmental health, climate change and how to lead a healthy lifestyle, and I hope they went away with a better understanding of the work that local authorities do.”

The campaign is an annual event that aims to make youngsters more aware of how their local council makes decisions that affect their everyday lives.

Councillor Alan Hills, Community, Culture and Leisure Portfolio Holder for Daventry District Council, said: “These sessions provided pupils with an opportunity to find out more about the local council and also help them understand the value of recycling, how to save energy and how to lead a healthy lifestyle.”
