Video: Do you remember when the Duke came to town?
A still from footage held by the Moviemakers of the Duke of Edinburgh's 1973 visit to Market Harborough
A HARBOROUGH film-making club is putting together a film of a Royal visit to the town to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.
In May 1973, the Duke of Edinburgh arrived by helicopter at Welland Park College to view over fifty displays set up by young people working on his Award Scheme.
Now the Harborough Movie Makers, who hold the raw footage shot at the time of the visit, are planning to put together a film about it.
They are looking for anyone who met the Duke or has recollection of the event to help them.
A 30 second compilation of the original footage is available to view by clicking this link.

Moviemakers secretary Peter Wilford said: “The Cine Society, the previous name of our club, was granted permission to film the visit and we still have all the ‘footage’, much of which has not been seen by the public.
“We have already transferred the film to digital video for editing with a narrative, and we are seeking help from anyone who met the Duke, especially those who appear in our film sequences.
“From the edition of the Harborough Mail which reported the visit, with many photographs, there are young people involved with building a canoe, riding a cycle on rollers, horse riding, and first aid.
“We have film of all these, and many more of the outdoor displays, but unfortunately none from inside the building where there was insufficient light to film.
“If any readers would like to help us with this project, and relate their experiences and memories of the event, we would be pleased to hear from them. I can be contacted by telephone on 01858 525372.”
