Wind turbine plans rejected by council

PROPOSALS to build a wind turbine on farmland near Great Oxendon have been refused by a council.

The application for a 78-metre high structure on Wormsdale Farm was rejected by members of Daventry District Council’s planning committee at a meeting last week.

There have been a number of proposals to build turbines in the area in recent years, with Eon granted permission to build a four-turbine wind farm on the Kelmarsh Hall estate in 2011 after an appeal.

The Wormslade Farm plans were unveiled at a public exhibition in Great Oxendon in August.

The proposal was for a 500kw turbine, which would be used to power the farm, with any excess energy sold to the grid.

It attracted objections from a number of groups including the parish councils of Maidwell and Draughton, Harrington, Arthingworth, Great Oxendon and Clipston, which all criticised it on the basis of the impact it would have on the countryside.

Council planning officers had recommended it be given the go-ahead, but the planning committee voted to throw it out.
