New plaque records Jubilee celebrations

VILLAGERS have a permanent reminder of their celebrations earlier this year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

An oval plaque recording the activities held in Wilbarston to mark the event has been fixed to the wall of the Fox Inn pub in the village.

Wilbarston bellringers marked the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne with a bellringing service.

They also took part in the Ringing Down the Valley event on June 4: a 12-hour cascade of bells from every ringing tower in the 65 miles of Welland Valley, from Sibbertoft to the Wash via Harborough.

Villagers also planted a Mulberry tree and came together for a beacon-lighting ceremony.

The ne plaque sits below one of the four special street name plates erected by the village to commemorate the 2002 Golden Jubilee.
