THE SEARCH is on to unearth Harborough’s hidden talent.

Market Harborough Musical Theatre has organised the Harborough’s Got Talent event in a bid to find a star.

They are appealing for people aged six and over to apply for a chance to win a £500 first prize and the opportunity to perform on the Harborough FM stage at this year’s Harborough Carnival.

Organiser Eleanor Shepherd says she hopes the event will bring the community together.

She is also hoping the competition will raise much-needed funds for the theatre group, which has suffered disappointing ticket sales for recent shows.

Eleanor, who also runs the DASH Youth music theatre group, said: “I think there’s a lot of unrecognised talent in Harborough and I think we’re going to find a star – that’s what we’re looking for.”

People are being invited to apply now for a spot at the preliminary round, to be held at the Three Swans Hotel on Sunday, April 1.

Acts will be invited to perform in front of a panel of judges – just like on the Britain’s Got Talent TV show – before a set of finalists are chosen to perform in the grand final at Welland Park Octagonal Theatre on April 21.

The competition is open to anyone with any talent – not just singers or dancers.

“I want to see what Harborough has got to offer and I’m really excited by the prospect,” said Eleanor.

“We’ve not had anything like this in Harborough for a good few years. We want to get the community together and get Harborough buzzing.”

Eleanor thanked competition sponsors the Three Swans Hotel and Welland Park Community College.

The closing date is March 30.

Tickets to watch the preliminary round are priced at £3, while tickets for the final cost £10.

Both are available to book now on 07872 436647 or harboroughsgottalent@yahoo.co.uk.
