Campaigners send up wind farm protest balloon

CAMPAIGNERS anchored a balloon at a height of 115m in Lubenham at the weekend to illustrate how tall proposed wind turbines near there would be.
A 6m long by 8ft orange balloon was attached to a cable and tied to an iron stump from an old windmill in Mill Hill.
Visitors at Lubenham's annual scarecrow festival were surprised at how tall the turbines would be at the site, between Harborough, Lubenham and Foxton, if the application for four 125m turbines from Cumbria-based company, Energy 4 All, is accepted.
Campaigner agains the plan Shaughan Ferguson told the Mail he had toured the festival asking people their views and said the majority were against the proposed site, at the southern end of the former airfield in Gallow Field Road.
Most said they were for renewable energy but in less habitable areas.
Energy 4 All erected a 50m anemometer six weeks ago at the site to measure wind speed and direction for 17 months.
Mr Ferguson said: "We wanted to actually see how tall these turbines would be."
He added: "Most people are for renewable energy but think it should be done away from people's homes. It really is just an inappropriate place."
