A CYCLIST has died after being struck by a car on the A5199 Welford Road near Shearsby yesterday (Wednesday).
The accident happened at about 9am when the cyclist was struck by a grey-green Vauxhall Astra estate.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and, at the time of going to press, had not yet been formally identified.

A 70-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

Police are urgently seeking a lorry driver, who was driving along the A5199 from Husbands Bosworth towards Shearsby and who may have witnessed the collision or events leading up to it.

Det Sgt Ivan Stafford, investigating officer, said: “We don’t believe this lorry driver was involved in the collision but we do need to speak to him as he may recall details about the incident..

“Similarly, if you are a business in south Leicestershire and you took a delivery this morning from a lorry driver who mentioned an incident on the A5199, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact DS Stafford on 0116 2222222, using ID number 0530 when prompted.
