A CONTROVERSIAL planning application to build two 127m high wind turbines in Brixworth has been temporarily withdrawn.
Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines and Wind Direct announced they have delayed proposals to build the two turbines, in order for more detailed planning information to be provided to Daventry District Council.

A protest was held outside the Mer
cedes-Benz facility at the start of the month and many residents, including former England cricketer Allan Lamb and his wife Lindsay, who live in Scaldwell, have voiced their opposition to the plans.

David Le Sueur, chairman of the Stop Brixworth Wind Farm Group, said there was ‘no economic or power’ justification to build the turbines and there would be no actual benefit to anybody living in Brixworth.

He added: “It does indicate they are having second thoughts, but I do not know what their game is.

“I am pleased at the news but we must not gloat. We will keep up our determination to resist this application.”

An open day to display the plans for the turbines was due to take place at Brixworth Village Hall last Thursday but was cancelled following the announcement last Tuesday.

Mercedes-Benz has now said it will consult local residents and stakeholders during the next few months before an application is re-submitted.
