A FUN, family pancake race kicked off the Great Bowden Festival on Sunday.
The festival only happens once every four years so despite the snow on the ground there was a great turnout with 10 teams competing.
Teams had four competitors each and entered a relay race, tossing pancakes before passing them on like batons.
Winners of the family race were The Mad Hatters and the adult race was won by The Odd Bods.
Funny hats were encouraged and a range of crazy woolly hats turned out, mainly because of the cold conditions, although a tri-cornered pirate hat could be seen on event organiser James Carpenter.
The race was for people of all ages. Primary school children and the elderly all came out to enjoy the Great Bowden festival spirit.
Pancakes were used in the race, but unfortunately couldn’t be eaten as most of them had been destroyed during the race.
The pancake race has been running for several years and is the traditional curtain-raiser for the festival.
Despite the fact it is a race, the main point of it is to have fun.
James Carpenter, event organiser, said: “It is to bring the community together.”
