A BRASS band has said a big thank you to everyone who helped them raise an impressive amount towards group running costs and for charity.

Harborough Band raised more than £4,000 with its carol-playing activities over the Christmas period and in January members donated £400 of that total to the St Luke’s Hospital Comfort Fund.

The decision to support St Luke’s, in Leicester Road, Harborough, came as a little ‘thank you’ to the hospital and its staff for caring for band stalwart and its longest-serving vice-president, Norman Vine, who died last year after a long illness.

Mark Stamp, band president, said: “The band and the Vine family wish to express our thanks to the staff at St Luke’s for the wonderful work they do.

“The band would also like to thank the general public of Harborough and district for their continued support and to the players and collectors for turning out in all weathers.”

The cash presentation was held at St Nicholas Church Hall in Little Bowden on January 19.

Following an appearance last month (January) at The Butlin’s Mineworkers’ Championships in Skegness, the band’s next big outing will be at The Midlands Area Brass Band Championship in Bedworth Civic Hall on March 10.
