Extra traffic expected as sewage plant is improved
VILLAGERS in Wilbarston and Stoke Albany are being warned to expect an increase in traffic for the first three months of the year due to work to improve a sewage plant.
Anglian Water is spending £500,000 to upgrade the works off Lower Road between the two villages.
Although the work itself will not affect residents, there will be a number of trucks carrying concrete and construction materials making their way to and from the site along Lower Road, Church Street and Carlton Road in Wilbarston.
John Clare of Anglian Water said: “We will not be closing any roads, but as Church Street and Lower Road are both single carriageways, cars will not be able to pass when construction vehicles are using them.
“We will need to deliver a site office and other temporary buildings, together with a 35-tonne tracked excavator to the site next week, then six to eight weeks later collect the excavator on a low loader.
“In between we estimate there will be four to six truck movements to and from the works up to Carlton Road every day.
“We will be letting people living along the route know when particularly large vehicles will be passing, either by knocking on doors or by letter.
“We know this may be disruptive and inconvenient and we are sorry about that.
“We will do all we can to keep that disruption to a minimum and to keep people informed as work progresses.”
It is hoped the work will be completed by the end of March, he added.
