Lots of uplifting events for bra shop anniversary
One of the Anita range of bras offered at Harborough's Little Big Bra Shop
A bra shop in Harborough is marking its third birthday celebrations this weekend by launching a new loyalty card scheme and having a special event for women who have undergone a mastectomy or similar operation.
To coincide with the third anniversary of its opening, The Little Big Bra Shop, in Adam and Eve Street, is holding a mastectomy bra-fitting event tomorrow (Friday).
While owner Karen Forbes has ensured great products have been available for ladies who have had a mastectomy right from the start of its opening with the Royce brand, she has now widened the choices further with the introduction of the Anita brand.
She said: “I feel it is so important for ladies who find themselves in the position of having to have a mastectomy bra that they should be able to choose from pretty, feminine yet still comfortable and supportive underwear.
“They have, after all, been through enough, I feel it’s my duty as a bra shop owner and as a woman to provide this service.”
With 50,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK, there are nearly 18,000 mastectomies carried out each year and a further 39,000 women have other types of breast surgery such as lumpectomies.
Karen is all too aware with her years in the lingerie industry of the need for comfort in this difficult time. She has worked extensively for leading brands and has vast experience in mastectomy fittings having assisted in training schools for leading retailers working in conjunction with the Breast Cancer Care charity.
The mastectomy bras it stocks have bilateral pockets to hold prosthesis in place securely and comfortably and new for spring will be a new flexi-wired bra to offer even better shape.
A representative from the Anita brand will be on hand tomorrow (Friday) and the shop is also offering 10 per cent off all mastectomy bras on the day – on top of the VAT exclusion all women buying mastectomy bras are entitled to.
To offer customers even more reason to come to the shop, it is also launching a loyalty card programme this Saturday.
Karen said: “I started out three years ago now and have been so pleased with the loyalty I have been shown by my customers that I wanted to thank them by launching a loyalty card scheme.”
Is is simple and straightforward – for every five items purchased, customers will receive the sixth item at half-price. People can drop in and collect their loyalty cards from Saturday.
During the two-day celebration, there will also be a prize draw for everyone to enter to win a free set of lingerie that the winner can choose for themselves from a selected range of brands. Full details will be available in-store.
And finally, to support the Northamptonshire-based breast cancer charity Crazy Hats the shop is asking for people to donate their old, unwanted bras for recycling. The bras, which need to be in a good condition (no dirty or ripped bras), will be given to Crazy Hats which will arrange for these to go to Third World countries in exchange for money for the charity.
