The Lighthouse Restaurant in Kibworth opened its doors less than a year ago and yet it has already been making a big impression on Michelin inspectors.
Owners Sarah Poli and Lino Poli were amazed to discover they had not only been included in this year’s guide, but that judges had awarded them a Bib Gourmand, an official stamp of approval for restaurants providing great food at good value.
The Lighthouse is the only new Leicestershire eaterie to be given the accolade.
Sarah said: “I was amazed when I found out. We knew we had made it into the Michelin Guide, but we have only just found out about the Bib Gourmand and it completely blew me away.”
Before it opened in January, The Lighthouse was formerly known as Firenze, an upmarket Italian restaurant which Sarah and Lino had run together for 14 years.
After deciding it was time for a change, they came up with a new name, gave the restaurant a maritime theme and offered customers a different menu of seafood and more.
While Firenze regularly made it into the Michelin Guide, it never won a Bib Gourmand. Sarah said the new accolade was confirmation they had made the right decision.
She said: “When you’re awarded something like this, it is great to get that recognition.”
