Store says sorry after mouse seen
A supermarket has apologised to customers who saw a mouse running down an aisle while they were shopping in its Harborough store.
The rodent was seen running near the bread section of the Springfield Street store by a mum and her son.
It ran up the aisle and under shelving, near wrapped and unwrapped bread, said the family.
They contact staff and the supermarket chain’s head office to complain following the incident, which happened earlier this month.
A spokesman for Sainsbury’s said they had presented the family with a gift card as a goodwill gesture.
He said checks were regularly carried out to ensure the supermarket’s high standards were kept.
He added: “We are naturally very concerned to hear about the family’s experience in our store.
“This does not meet our usual high standards, which is why we’re working hard with independent experts to make sure this doesn’t happen again. We’d like to reassure customers that cleanliness and hygiene are a top priority and apologise for any distress to the family.”
In 2010 the Market Hall car park at the back of Sainsbury’s was baited after Wilkinsons contacted the authority when workers at its store suffered damage to their cars due to rodents nibbling on pipes and wires.
According to the the British Pest Control Association there were 111 call-outs for mice problems in Harborough district between April 2010 and April 2011.
