Union demands Magna Park talks

ANGRY union bosses are hoping to put the brakes on a series of job cuts in Northamptonshire which could create hundreds of new positions in the Lutterworth area.

Last week, the Mail reported how Argos was hoping to expand its operations to Magna Park near Lutterworth during the autumn this year.

However, the move would come at the expense of 440 workers at the firm’s site in Corby, who would have to relocate or lose their jobs.

Trade union Unite has now demanded answers on the Argos plans, which could be put into operation this summer.

Adrian Jones, Unite regional officer, said: “We want to know the exact reasons why Argos has decided to close the site.

“This time last year we know that the Corby centre was the most efficient of Argos’s seven distribution hubs, so why the closure now?

“It is Argos which is driving this and that’s who we need to influence to change its mind.”
