People from across the Harborough district are being urged to help propel a village business to glory on the national stage.
Welton’s, of The Green in Great Bowden, has made it through to the finals of the Local Businesses Accelerators (LBA) scheme where it stands to win £10,000 and mentoring from Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden.
But as well as that blue ribband prize, Welton’s is also in the running for the People’s Choice award out of the 15 firms nominated for the grand final. And that’s where you come in.
From today (Thursday), people can start voting onine for Welton’s to scoop the honour and gain some national prestige that the award bestows. The LBA campaign, now in its second year, is run by The Newspaper Society and was backed by Prime Minister David Cameron. Its aim is to highlight the power of local newspaper advertising and to accelerate up-and-coming businesses.
It invited every newspaper from across the country to submit entries and the Welton’s package of diverse services it offers to customers attracted the eye of the national judges.
An LBA camera crew visited the shop last month and its video will be going live on the Newspaper Society’s website from today.
The winners of the overall prize and the People’s Choice will be announced at a swanky lunch at Altitude, Millbank Tower in south-west London on October 15.
Mail deputy editor Alex Blackwell said: “We are urging the people of Harborough to really get behind Welton’s – it would be wonderful to see a small yet diverse and hard-working businesses from our area to win a national gong.
“So, please, get your voting finger working.”
