Waitrose staff to enjoy bonus payments

Waitrose staff in Harborough are to get bonuses worth 17 per cent of their salary after the group shrugged off tough economic conditions to report a 15.8 per cent surge in annual profits.
Workers at the firm, who are officially referred to as ‘partners’ by parent company The John Lewis Partnership, will be getting the equivalent of nearly nine weeks’ pay.
The partnership said its 84,700 employees will receive the bonuses after it increased its total bonus pot to £210.8 million.
Each worker - from weekend check-out assistants to chairman Charlie Mayfield - will be getting the same percentage of salary as a bonus.
The employee-owned firm unveiled the haul after reporting pre-tax, pre-bonus profits of £409.6 million for the 12 months to January 26th and said the current year had started well, with like-for-like sales up 13.7 per cent at its John Lewis department store chain.
The Waitrose supermarket in Harborough, off Springfield Street, opened in September last year to much fanfare.
