Who will be top of the hops?

Husband and wife licensees Andy and Dawn Moore, of the Coach and Horses pub, Main St, Lubenham, are facing off in a battle of the beers. They both brewed an ale and are holding a competition in the pub to see which one is most popular.

A husband and wife team who run a village pub are going pump to pump in a battle of the beers to decide who has brewed the best ale.

Andy and Dawn Moore at The Coach and Horses pub in Lubenham have pit their respective beers against each other for a month-long competition.

Andy is promoting Publican’s Pride and Dawn backing Malty Tasker Ale.

Pub-goers will be asked to decide which they prefer throughout February.

Andy was one of a team of landlords who brewed Publican’s Pride – a 4.5 per cent chestnut brown ale – during an Everards training course in 2006. Malty Tasker – a five per cent golden blonde ale – was brewed by Dawn and five other landladies, including Helen Foster of the Bulls Head in Clipston, last year.

Dawn said: “I have already began getting the customers on side and telling them about the virtues of Malty Tasker.

“Although it’s a bit of a girly blonde beer to look at, its a lot stronger than the Publican’s Pride. I am confident the regulars will realise its the best of the beers.”

Andy said: “Publican’s Pride is a bit deeper in colour.

“It’s more a winter brew – a bit of a winter warmer if you like. It’s all in good humour and it has been popular with people so far, they’ve really joined in the spirit of it.”
