Voluntary Action South Leicestershire has been awarded the cash by Women in Philanthropy (WiP).

Hannah Currington, VASL project lead, said: “WiP is unusual as it brings together influential and talented women from across Leicestershire and operates a fixed donation of £500 per member per year.

“It will be a while before we know the final figure that we will get, but it should be around the £5,000 mark, which we are delighted about.

“VASL has been supporting young carers through our Activity Group for a few years now - running fortnightly evening sessions in Harborough, and we try to do about six special events a year – for instance we have done a quad-bike safari; went to Fantasy Island; cycled round Pitsford Reservoir and had a picnic; given ice skating a go and had a Christmas meal at Pizza Express.

“All sessions and activities are free of charge. In fact, just this Monday we went to Cadbury World!”
