Charitable groups and other good causes are being invited to apply for a share of money raised at this year’s Harborough Carnival.
Each year the Carnival Committee gives grants to deserving organisations in Harborough and the surrounding villages.
This year’s event on June 8, was another big hit, with thousands enjoying the float parade around town and fun activities on the showground at Symington’s Recreation Ground.
The tremendous success means the committee is able to distribute £5,000 to deserving causes and local charities this year.
The committee is asking for groups to apply for a share and the Mail is inviting readers to nominate good causes they would like to see benefit.
Committee chairman John Bush said some of the funds to be distributed had been provided by the Market Harborough and the Bowdens Charity.
He added: “While the aim of the carnival is not to raise money, it is good when it does.
“This allows the committee to distribute the surplus to local charities, preferably small groups for who £70 would make a difference rather than large national charities.
“We are grateful to The Market Harborough and Bowdens Charity for their funding which is now being returned to local charities.”
To apply, or to nominate a group, fill in the coupon on page 13 of this week’s Harborough Mail (September 5) and send it to Carnival Cash Grants, Harborough Mail, 9 Northampton Road, Market Harborough, Leics, LE16 9HB, together with a brief letter explaining why your charity or good cause is deserving of a share of the money.
The deadline for applications is 2pm on Tuesday, September 17.
