Grow with your neighbours!

A new community initiative designed to convert under-used patches of land in Harborough into fruit and vegetable plots has been launched.

The ‘Incredible Edible’ project is a successful national scheme which is now being launched in Harborough. Local residents are invited to attend one of the consultation events that are taking place in the town where they can learn more about the initiative.

The scheme is being initiated locally by Sustainable Harborough.

Two green spaces have been identified as potential locations for plots – one off Roman Way and the other off Davies Close.

It is hoped people will join with friends and neighbours to grow fruit and veg together, as the plots are intended for the whole community.

Gavin Fletcher, from Sustainable Harborough, said: “There are few activities more satisfying than growing your own produce. Plus, they taste good and save money. We hope that this will be a real community project involving people of all ages.”

Although potential plots have already been identified, Gavin said he believes that people with a good local knowledge may have some useful suggestions for other locations and hidden spots where land is going to waste.

Incredible Edible consultation drop-in events are taking place on Tuesday, February 23, at The Angel Hotel and Thursday, February 25, at the Roman Way Community Centre, both from 6.30-8pm. Visit www.sustainableharborough.co.uk.
