Harborough tots can join mini-beast hunts

Hunting for minibeasts and taking part in treasure trails are among the activities under-fives in Market Harborough have been enjoying as part of a new project.

Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust has set up Wild Tots, a weekly group for pre-schoolers, as part of its Wild Forest School project.

The sessions were organised following high demand for places in the project’s weekly and monthly groups across Leicester.

During the sessions, children get to take part in a range of outdoor activities, from wildlife-themed games and minibeast hunting, to treasure trails and storytelling.

The groups meet come rain or shine and the children encouraged to have fun whatever the weather.

Martha Rose, education officer at Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, said: “Children today often have limited opportunities to find some green space and really enjoy the outdoors, particularly those living in urban areas.

“Through our Wild Tots sessions we’re hoping to change this by helping little ones to have fun exploring the world around them and teaching them the joys of nature from an early age.”
