Jane Lambourne spent time with students from Years 7 and 8 during the visit, on February 2.

National Storytelling Week is promoted by the Society for Storytelling and aims to engage both students and adults with storytelling, engaging the imagination and promoting speaking and listening skills.

Barratt Homes, whose Farndon Fields development is only a short walk from the academy, supported the event.

Andrew Swindell, managing director said: “Events such as these give Barratt Homes a great opportunity to make a difference to the communities in which we build.”

Caroline Bowden, the academy’s head of English said: “The students thoroughly enjoyed learning about the oral tradition of storytelling.

“They have been encouraged to keep sharing these stories far and wide!”

The Society for Storytelling’s 16th annual National Storytelling Week took place from Saturday, January 30, to Saturday, February 6.

The event is not just aimed at schools, as pubs, community groups and many more are encouraged to take part.
