Armed robbery at Lutterworth bank, with video link

ARMED robbers threatened bank staff with a gun during a raid in Lutterworth.

Police said two men raided the Natwest, in High Street, shortly before 10.30am (on Thursday, January 25) before escaping in a dark-coloured Volvo estate.

A police armed response unit attended the scene and the police helicopter was also used.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident, Leicestershire police said this afternoon.

They did not say whether anything was stolen in the robbery.

They have appealed for witnesses to contact them on the 101 hotline.

Photographer Andrew Carpenter took this video of the scene earlier today.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at 10.26am to a bank in High Street, Lutterworth, after a report of an armed robbery.

“Two men entered the premises and threatened a staff member with what is thought to be a firearm.

“They left the premises in a dark coloured Volvo estate car.

“In the interest of public safety a firearms response was deployed.

“Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody.

“Investigations are in there very early stages.”

Detective inspector Shaun Orton, who is investigating the robbery, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who saw the vehicle either before or after the incident. Were you in the area? Have you seen the vehicle since.”
