Hustings in town for police commissioner’s role

THREE candidates for the new Leicestershire Police Commissioner role will go head-to-head in a debate at St Dionysius Church in Harborough on Thursday, November 1.

On November 15, elections are taking place for the new commissioner role, which will be for a person accountable for how crime is tackled in their force area.

The three candidates for the Leicestershire post: Conservative representative Sir Clive Loader, Labour representative Sarah Russell and independent Suleman Nagdi, will be present at the open forum, which starts at 7pm.

Richard Brand, rector of St Dionysius Church, said: “With the elections approaching it is very good to be able to hold an open forum here in Harborough.

“Residents from this part of the county will be able to meet the candidates, hear their plans and views and it will ensure a greater promotion of the election and a deeper understanding of the post.”

Commissioners are also being elected at other forces across England and Wales.
