TWO men have appeared in court charged with murdering the owner of a Lutterworth town centre takeaway.
Wali Khan (31) and Naveed Naveed (27), both of St Stephen’s Road, Leicester, are accused of murdering Dogan Dogan (pictured), the owner of Pizzaman in Church Street, Lutterworth.
The 50-year-old’s body was found at a flat above his Leicester business, Aladdin’s Pizza, in Linton Street, on Sunday, January 8.
On Monday, Khan and Naveed appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court where they spoke through an Urdu translator only to confirm their names and addresses.
Both face a charge of murdering Mr Dogan, but neither entered a plea at Monday’s hearing.
The pair then appeared at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday) where their barrister applied for bail, which was not granted, and the men were remanded into custody until February 22 when they will appear at Leicester Crown Court.
On Saturday, a preliminary hearing at Leicester Magistrates’ Court heard that Mr Dogan’s body was found at Aladdin’s Pizza by an employee.
He had been tied up and died from suffocation.
He is also believed to have had the takings from his Lutterworth and Leicester businesses at the premises, but no trace of the cash was found by investigating officers.
Mr Dogan was said to have spent part of the evening before his death at Pizzaman in Lutterworth.
After Mr Dogan’s death, a number of floral tributes were left outside Pizzaman in Church Street, some addressed to Dogan but others addressed to Mr Pizzaman, a nickname used by some of his customers. Owners of neighbouring businesses spoke fondly of Mr Dogan, a Kurdish Turk who had run his Lutterworth business for about ten years.
