An SUV linked to a string of shop thefts across three counties has been seized by police in Market Harborough.

Police found the keys still in the ignition of the abandoned Nissan 4×4 in Scotland Road, Little Bowden, after the alarm was raised.

Officers discovered the vehicle after worried residents reported “suspicious behaviour” in the busy street.

The car is suspected to have been used by criminals targeting shops in Lutterworth and Oadby in Leicestershire, Corby in Northamptonshire and in Derbyshire over the last two months.

The SUV was not taxed and had no insurance or MoT, said police.

Officers probing the mini-crimewave are continuing to carry out enquiries into the vehicle and its owner.
