Sun shines on a successful show - SEE FULL RESULTS HERE

A BUSY agricultural show proved to be a big hit on sun-soaked Sunday as thousands attended the 53rd Blaston Show.

Despite the potential distraction of England's World Cup match, more than 2,200 people flocked to see the huge variety of events on display at the showground, located between the villages of Blaston and Slawston.

The organisers, Blaston and District Agricultural Show Society, announced the attendance was about 25 per cent higher than last year and all competitions received a considerable increase in entrants.

More than 50 trade stands were on-hand selling a variety of products to add to the traditional attractions including classic cars and tractors, horse and pony shows, livestock classes, dog showing, farm machinery displays, sheep shearing, rural crafts and the main ring's entertainment.

Show Director Oliver Lee said: "We are all thrilled with how the day went and are now frantically assessing exactly how much we have made for our chosen charities, with most of the proceeds set to go to the air ambulance.

"It was great to hear how much people enjoyed the show, particularly the new cattle exhibit, the trade village and the all important Women's Institute tent. It really felt like a proper agricultural show with something for everyone."

Society chairman Rupert West thanked the many volunteers and businesses who supported the show and added: "Blaston Show is an extremely special event for the community.

"The success of Sunday makes the phenomenal effort and support given by so many people extremely worthwhile."
