A folk festival that raises money for good causes is at risk of being cancelled due to a lack of funding.

Organisers behind the Harborough Folk Festival have this week appealed for a new sponsor to step forward to save the event.

Juliette Maher, who runs the event with husband John, contacted the Mail after reading about Arts Fresco’s plight, an event being axed this year due to funding shortfalls.

Mrs Maher said: “We have run the festival for the last three years and the same applies to us where funding is concerned. Unless we can obtain some sponsorship this year the festival will not be going ahead. It would be a pity as there is a great deal of interest from performers and audience.”

It costs about £5,000 to stage the festival.

Last year’s event was held at Harborough Town FC and raised money for wounded soldiers’ charity Help for Heroes. Anyone able to help should phone 07736 361351.
