1800 homes masterplan revealed

A draft masterplan which will shape a development of up to 1,800 homes on land north west of Harborough has been unveiled.

It shows in further detail where developers are proposing to put between 1,500 and 1,800 homes, a primary school, agricultural showground, shops, a marina, business park, sports pitches, country park and allotments.

It would see a new road built over the canal off the B6047 Leicester Road, near the Woodlands.

A main road through the estate would come out at the top of Lubenham Hill.

The masterplan has been put together by developers with interests in the site at the request of Harborough District Council, which wants to avoid developers coming up with individual schemes for different parts of the land which may end up becoming disjointed.

The design includes balancing ponds for flood prevention, a hotel and pub complex and three-storey townhouses overlooking the marina.

The draft masterplan is available at libraries across the district and for download at www.harborough.gov.uk

People are being encouraged to have their say on the masterplan during a six-week consultation.

It is also running a four-day exhibition at the Three Swans Hotel in High Street, Harborough, from Wednesday to Saturday, when developers and council representatives will be on hand to answer questions.

The exhibition this week runs from 10am-8pm Wednesday to Friday, and 10am to 2pm on Saturday.

The masterplan consultation will run alongside one into the wider Local Plan blueprint for development across the district over the next 20 years.
