Advice group to combat obesity

A FREE family lifestyle programme is being launched in the Harborough distirct.

The Family Lifestyle Club (FLiC), supported through Harborough Council’s Active Together program is led by fully-qualified NHS dietitians.

The six-week programme, being held at Fleckney Village Hall from February 4, will see parents and children meet up weekly.

There will be active play such as indoor hockey or rounders, with a nutritional twist for the children who are aged between 8 and 13.

Meanwhile parents get together to share ideas about making changes that will support their family to eat a healthy balanced diet, dealing with fussy eating, portion sizes, active play, meals, sleeping patterns, food labels and eating out. Families come together for the final part of the session to make and taste a variety of foods.

Cllr Chris Holyoak, who has responsibility for health at Harborough Council, said: “We all recognise that obesity is becoming a growing problem within society and that is why we are supporting this type of programme.”
