Business land poised to make way for 110 houses
LAND earlier earmarked for business use is set to be switched to residential to pave the way for more than 100 new homes on the southern edge of Harborough.
Persimmon Homes (North Midlands) Ltd wants to build 110 houses on land east of Northampton Road, near to the part-developed Compass Point Business Park.
The developer has applied to Harborough District Council for outline planning permission and officers at the authority are recommending approval of the proposals at a meeting on Tuesday.
The development, on a site covering more than ten acres, would feature a mixture of house types and about a third would be labelled ‘affordable’ homes.
The town’s civic society has objected to the scheme, claiming the site is too isolated for housing and that it should be retained for business purposes.
Plans for a further 59 homes – part of the huge development off Farndon Road, Harborough – are also being recommended for approval.
The applicant is Ben Bailey Homes but the overall estate involves several different housebuilders.
Meanwhile a controversial plan to build 175 homes on the site of a garden centre off Uppingham Road, Thurnby, looks set to be rejected. The district council says the land forms part of a protected area.
