Decision on wind farm test mast deferred

A DECISION over whether to grant permission for a 50 metre-tall weather mast on land between Lubenham and Gartree has been deferred.

Energy4All has asked Harborough District Council for planning consent to put up the anemometer, which measures wind speed and direction, to test the suitability of the site for a wind farm.

It was up before the council’s planning committee on Tuesday night and had been due for approval even though a consultation period on the plan had not expired.

The Mail reported last week that Energy4All wants to build four 125 metre-tall, 90 metre-wide turbines on farmer James Wright’s land.

Concerned residents in Lubenham have been going door-to-door to inform people of the proposal as they feel it has ‘slipped under the radar’.

People have highlighted that the turbines would be higher than Big Ben [96 metres] and ten metres shy of the London Eye.

Speaking at the meeting, Lubenham’s ward district councillor Blake Pain appealed for the committee to defer its decision until the consultation had finished.

The committee agreed and the anemometer decision will go before the next planning committee on July 22.
