Decision to be made on hospital

PLANS for phase two of the new Market Harborough hospital are due to be discussed by Harborough District Council’s Planning Committee at a meeting on Tuesday.

Councillors will visit the site on Monday before the debate and decision on Tuesday.

Cllr Phil Knowles, who has been campaigning for a hospital for more than 20 years, said: “This is one of the final but nevertheless still important stages.

“The submission of the application will be seen as evidence that the long awaited, much campaigned for facility is almost within touching distance. I am delighted.

“As Harborough grows the importance of this facility will become evermore visible.

“We will need to encourage the NHS Bosses to bring the maximum number of services to the unit to cut down travel time and stress for the community. We have campaigned for this for 20 years and the campaign won’t stop until the building is completed, the opening ceremony done and the unit up and running.’’
