The former head of police in Harborough is to receive an award today (Tuesday) for his role helping to make sure last summer’s Olympic Torch Relay went without a hitch.

Insp Neal Holland left his role at Harborough last year to join Leicestershire Police’s Olympic Planning Team.

The team, which also includes Mick Shaw and Graham Todd, will today receive the Chief Constable’s Commendation for Outstanding Work at the force’s headquarters in Enderby.

The citation reads: “Insp Neal Holland joined the Planning Team in September 2011 to work alongside Graham Todd and Mick Graham to deliver the Olympic Torch Relay and also to provide secretariat support.

“Neal’s work has provided a legacy of good practice and shared responsibility when dealing with large events.

“He was very visible with partners and attended and presented at key local partnership meetings to ensure join up and give reassurance which was really appreciated by all.”
