Taking on the London Marathon is a rrrruff enough challenge as it is, but one dogged runner will be doing it dressed in a full-body costume to raise money for charity.

Brian Corcoran (38), from Theddingworth, will be raising money for the Dogs’ Trust when he runs the marathon on April 21.

Mr Corcoran is choosing to run the marathon for this charity as he has recently taken in a rescued dog called Clarence from the trust.

He said: “We have recently got a dog from there just before Christmas.

“He was quite a distressed dog and I was impressed by the professionalism and care from the staff there.

“They look after so many dogs and I think they are the biggest re-homing charity in the UK and it is all done on a charitable basis .”

Mr Corcoran has run five marathons in the past and the firefighter, who works at the southern station in Leicester, once took on a half marathon in his full firefighters’ kit.

He said that he was encouraged to do it dressed as a dog by friends and that although running in the hot and sweaty suit will be tough, he is hoping the huge crowds will drive him on.

Mr Corcoran will also be supported by his wife Emma and family on the day.

Harborough’s Welland Park Academy is running a contest to a design a T-shirt for her to wear on the day and there will be a prize for the winner.

She is also holding a raffle to raise funds, which is gaining support from town firms.
