Hot-footing it for Red Nose Day
Staff from Harborough's Sainsbury's cool their feet after the walk
Hardy staff from Harborough’s Sainsbury’s supermarket took part in a fire-walk over hot coals on Monday, raising more than £1,000 for Comic Relief.
Eight workers from the Sprinfield Street store walked over 480-degree hot coals for the cause at Olney in Buckinghamshire.
Mel Wisher, the shop’s community champion and one of the eight who took part, said: “It was an awesome afternoon and more than 200 Sainsbury’s colleagues from across the UK did the walk and between us we raised around £20,000 for Comic Relief.
“Eight staff from Harborough walked over the hot coals and we raised over £1,000 between us. It was hot (480 degrees) and I’m not doing it again!”
The Sainsbury’s store in town is organising a whole host of activities tomorrow (Friday) for Red Nose Day including a hot-dog eating contest, a Maltesers chopstick challenge, a space hopper fundraiser, guess the number of balloons in the caravan, a wheelie wheelchair challenge and cracker-eating contest.
