Man, 31, is accused of having child porn

A LUTTERWORTH man charged with possessing about 1,400 child porn photos and videos has appeared before magistrates in Harborough.

Kelvin Wilkinson (31), from Holly Drive, is accused of downloading the photos and videos between March 2006 and January 2008.

He appeared at Harborough Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

Wilkinson said he was giving no indication to the charges at this stage of the proceedings.

In total, he faces ten charges of downloading a variety of images and videos.

The courts use a five-level system to describe the severity of images, called the Copine Scale, with level one being the least indecent and level five considered the most severe.

Wilkinson faces charges of possessing 1,137 photgraphs and 20 videos at level one, nine photos and 31 movies at level two, 17 photos and 19 movies at level three, 25 photos and 169 movies at level four, and two photos and three movies in level five.

Prosecution solicitor Julie Facer told the court that the charges were so serious they needed to be dealt with by the crown court.

Wilkinson was remanded on unconditional bail until Thursday, August 6, for papers to be prepared. He was told he must return to Harborough Magistrates’ Court on that day for committal to Leicester Crown Court.
