Heritage hub designs

More images have been released that show how the new library and museum which will be based at Harborough District Council’s new headquarters could look.

The new-look facilities which will be called the heritage hub will be based on the first floor of the building which is undergoing a £5.75m refurbishment, set for completion next year.

In 2012 the council approved plans to refurbish its headquarters.

Plans included creating a special community and cultural hub which would include Market Harborough Library, Harborough Museum and the Leicestershire Adult Learning Service, as well as the Market Harborough Registration Office.

The council has been working with Leicestershire County Council to develop the designs and the project is being funded by the council, the county council and the Market Harborough and Bowdens Charity.

The first designs became available in early February when they were published in the Mail and now these updated plans have become available.

The first floor will integrate the museum and library resourced; the local studies area will fully merge the library and museum materials, and the children’s space will house books and museum displays that will include interactive exhibits.

The Hallaton treasure will return to the museum as will Falkner’s boot and shoe making workshop.

Museum displays will be updated with new showcases which will allow many more artefacts to be displayed.

There will be museum displays throughout the whole cultural space and the temporary exhibition area will allow changing exhibitions and offer the possibility of loan exhibitions from other museums.

People are being invited to comment on the designs on the Leicestershire County Council website or by visiting libraries in Harborough, Fleckney, Lutterworth and Kibworth.
