HUNDREDS of people signed up to take part in a special Lutterworth survey which records where they are losing heat from their homes.

The event, at Lutterworth Town Hall, was aimed at getting people to sign up to take part in a project to have a special thermal image taken of their homes.

The images, which show bright colours wherever buildings are losing heat, show people where they need to take measures to reduce heat loss, such as loft or cavity wall insulation.

Sue Turner, one of the organisers of the project, said: “The event was fantastic.

“We had a steady stream of people coming in to speak to us all day and people seemed to be really interested and have got behind it.

“The feedback we had was really good.”

Mrs Turner said the next step of the project involves taking the thermal images over the next few weeks.

She added: “We are going out in pairs, starting on Wednesday (yesterday) in the early evening, to take photos of all the addresses which expressed an interest.

“Obviously it relies a little bit on the temperature. We could have done with it staying colder for a few more weeks as it’s started to get a bit milder, but as long as there is a significant difference between the outside temperature and the inside one, we can get a good image.”

Mrs Turner said the images were not being made public, but would only be shared with the homeowner.

She added: “We’re having a follow-up event at the next farmers’ market in March where people can come back and get a bit more information about insulating their homes more efficiently.

“Hopefully lots of people will come back to see the images.”

Lutterworth town clerk Hannah Surtees said about 200 people had signed up to have images taken of their home on Saturday, and stressed that the deadline had now passed.

The follow-up event is due to take place at Lutterworth Town Hall on Saturday, March 10, between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

A similar event was held in Dunton Bassett last month after photos of homes were taken in the run-up to Christmas.

The equipment has been loaned to the Lutterworth group by the Rural Community Council and can be borrowed by parish and town councils in other parts of the county.
