Traffic light takes a hit in the snow
No Caption ABCDE
SNOW has returned to cause merriment and frustration in equal measure.
While youngsters are again building snowmen and lobbing snowballs, the freezing weather has also brought with it treacherous road conditions.
A new traffic light in St Mary’s Road, Harborough, has taken a hit, presumably by a vehicle skidding in the snow, and has been left at an angle.
The light has only been there for about four months, since County Hall bosses installed new infrastructure and light sequences last October.
Some motorists have also criticised the lack of gritting last night including on major roads such as the A6 bypass.
A car had taken a nasty swipe to the back right-hand side near the A6 Glen Rise roundabout in Great Glen at 10.30pm last night (Thursday).
The Kelmarsh Hall Snowdrop Weekend has also been cancelled.
The forecast for tonight (Friday): minus-2C. Continuing to be dry with some lengthy clear spells. Less breezy but very cold with a hard frost developing.
Tomorrow (Saturday): 0 to minus-3C. A dry, very cold day again. Mainly bright or sunny for most but it is likely to become cloudier later in the day.
Sunday: 4C. Cloudy, a little rain or drizzle and becoming less cold.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 09:58 PMThe pavements and Market Square are also very icy in Harborough town centre. This is evident in the photograph accompanying this article. Whilst driving through Harborough this evening, I was amazed at how icy these areas appeared to be. Out of town shopping outlets clear their carparks of snow then grit them (Fosse Park and Kettering). I would be tempted to shop elsewhere to avoid Harborough and its dangerous icy conditions.Consequently spendIng my money elsewhere. The council should ensure that the town centre is a safe place for both motorists and pedestrians. The snow was forecast so there is no excuse for this reckless lack of care for Harborough residents!
