UPDATED: Three men released following arrests over "firearms offences and child abduction"
THREE men have been released by police and will face no charges in relation to allegations of firearms offences and child abduction.
The allegations related to reports of an incident at a travellers' site in Braybrooke which was said to involve firearms and the abduction of children.
However Northants police said today (Tuesday) that those reports proved false and that it was actually an attempted robbery.
Three men entered the site between 8.45am and 9.15am on Saturday and threatened two people, but did not take anything.
Neither of the people threatened were injured.
The three offenders were between 6ft and 5ft 6ins tall, were slim and wore jeans or dark coloured trousers and hooded tops.
Three men from Corby were arrested by officers following the incident but were later eliminated from the police investigation and released.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity near the site to come forward and would also like to speak to anyone who used Desborough Road in Braybrooke that morning.
A spokesman for the force said: "Northamptonshire police is aware that rumours are circulating within the travelling community that a group of offenders are entering sites with firearms and threatening and assaulting residents. However, to date there has been no evidence to support these rumours and officers are not, at present, investigating any offences that these rumours relate to.
"We are working alongside colleagues across the country to reassure the travelling and wider community about these rumours."

Detectives called to the scene said an incident did take place, but said it did not involve firearms, or the abduction of children.
